Isabella first saw the villa from the water, the way guests were meant to — from the seat of a mahogany launch, at the hour the lake turns to pewter. By the time the boat touched the jetty, she had stopped asking questions about the ceremony order. Some places answer the questions for you.

The couple came to us with a guest list of ninety-four and a single instruction: 'We want it to feel like a house party in a painting.' The villa — a frescoed palazzo above Tremezzo — did the painting. We did the house party.

The Welcome

Guests arrived by boat across two golden hours, each launch met on the jetty with Franciacorta and the villa's doors standing open. Dinner that first night was in the garden under the plane trees: lake fish, saffron risotto, and a long table that mixed both families deliberately, seat by seat. By dessert, the weekend had already begun to feel like a family rather than an event.

“We wanted a house party in a painting. They found us the painting, and then they built the party.”

The Wedding Day

The ceremony was held at six, on the upper terrace, as the light came low across the water. A string quartet played from the staircase. Dinner followed in the piano nobile — one hundred candles, frescoes overhead, and courses that arrived like small ceremonies of their own.

At midnight the doors were thrown open and the party moved to the pier, where a band played until the lake went still and the mountains were only a darker dark. The last guests were carried home across the water at three, wrapped in the villa's blankets, watching the lit gardens recede.

The Morning After

The farewell was a slow sail to Bellagio — bellinis, cornetti, and ninety-four people wearing the particular peace of a celebration that had nothing left to prove.
